In his recent article on avoiding search mistakes on the web,
Chris Sherman writes, and I quote with his permission:
"...sometimes your best bet for finding information is to log
off and take a trip to your local library...librarians are
trained experts who are usually more than willing to help you
find what you're looking for. When you're getting nowhere on
the web, take advantage of these (usually very nice) "human
search engines." You can read Sherman's entire article, "Seven
Stupid Searching Mistakes...Searching For Hits In All the Wrong
Places" at:
     http://websearch.miningco.com/library/weekly/aa051299.htm

I received a very nice reply from him when I wrote asking for
permission to quote. It is always heartening to find someone
who offers descriptions defying the stereotyped image of librarians
and who understands the true range of services we can offer.
