My library was renovated 2 summers ago. I didn't box up a thing nor did I
have any "maintenance" help. My system (although strenuous) went quite well.
I had the sole help of my husband and my 60+ year-old parents. Between the
four of us all went smoothly. First we located a storage place within the
school. We chose the school cafeteria which is the largest room closest to
the library. We emptied out all the little stuff in the library first
(tables, chairs, carts, etc.) The computers were torn down and covered and
stored in locked classrooms. When it came time to move the bookcases, my
mother and I would empty off the first 1 or 2 shelves - stacking the books on
carts in order. This made the bookcase somewhat lighter. My husband and
father would lift each end of the bookcase onto 2 rolling scooters (we found
these from the gym!) and basically "rolled" the bookcases into the cafeteria.
My mom and I put the books back on their correct shelves in order and we
went from there on to the next bookcase. Everything was covered with large
plastic drop cloths.

Yes, it was a lot of hard work, and yes there was a lot of sweat, but I
couldn't imagine boxing up everything. Also, choose your helpers wisely!!
The fact that I just had my family helping was a blessing. Everyone cared
deeply about the library and everything was treated with care. This took
about 1 full week after school was out and 1 full week to put it back.

P.S. My husband and I moved into a new house last summer. Guess who did all
the moving!! We are all 4 looking forward to this summer when nothing has to
be moved!

Best of luck!
