Principal Woes

I couldn't believe it when my high school principal and I were discussing
a library issue in Februray and he said, "Oh well, you're just an hourly
employee, aren't you?  I was only referring to certified staff." I'm
non-violent, but had a brief moment of wanting to break his legs or
something. . . That sentence about "I went to college for this??!!" was
applicable!!
Sometimes working with these young (I'm old enough to be his mother!),
arrogant, full-of-themselves administrators is pretty stressful!!! Maybe
we all need to be more assertive.  When we move libraries we memo the
principal (with a copy to the supe) with a list stating:
          We will be moving the library on   (date)
          I expect the following personnel and materials (people, boxes,
carts, etc.)
          Thank you for your continuing support in the library.  You are
vital to the
          successful program we provide for students in this school!
Have a delightful summer.  I add my voice to others who applaud this list
- it just makes me so much better at what I do, both personally and
professionally. Thanks to all.
