Wanted: Books about people & their environment

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a book or series that discusses the way of life of
various peoples, making a strong connection to the influence of their
environment. Something along the line of the "Junior Worldmark Encyclopedia
of World Cultures" (which we have) would be good; I'm looking for the
additional organizational feature that one can search for a habitat type
(desert, plains, forest, etc.) and easily find peoples who inhabit it.

This is for the junior high level.
