In addition to Johanna's citation, there is another guide to writing
for publication ('writing AND publication' makes a good search
strategy in the databases) from Phi Delta Kappa:

A brief guide to writing for professional publication
Henson, Kenneth T
Phi Delta Kappa Fastbacks. no437 '98 p. 7-42.

If you're going to check the databases, be sure to search the
Education literature, not the Library literature since you're writing
for a different audience.
