TARGET:Contemporary 7th gr. novel

Greetings,
 My 7th grade English teachers are looking for a contemporary novel they
could use with their classes next year that  would have wide appeal .
"Tangerine", one of my favorites,  is too long.  Any suggestions for a
great book kids would truly enjoy reading?
 Also, does anyone know when "Holes" will be in paperback? I've already
claimed that one for my book discussion groups.  Thanks for any advice!
