Hi, All!

Right now I have an exciting collaboration in progress that
involves
some university students and some of our faculty. Unexpectedly, I was
able to reach out and act as a resource person for some university level

education students in another state. This started when I got an e-mail

from a lady who used to live in our community. She has gone back to
school (in another state) to pursue an education degree. She e-mailed
asking for ideas and feedback relating to a class project.

The project is similar to one a teacher does at my school. I
support
his project with services, materials and resources, including a spot on
our
library media center Internet Project Page. (Recently, the teacher had
invited me to help brainstorm how the theme could be taken into other
curricular areas.) I arranged contact between the university student
and
some of our teachers. I also invited the university students to be
guests
on our library media center web site's project page. Had we had more
time, we were going to try and arrange chat type contact between the
university students, 3 of our faculty members and possibly some of our
students. I felt that this would have been a great brainstorming
opportunity for all.

Here is the guest spot on our Project Page:

I put a lot of time in this, but am fairly certain that my
efforts will help
shape the students' perceptions of library media services and school
librarians/media specialists!!! I also liked how encouraging our
teachers
to look at other possible uses for the Internet (using Instant
Messenger's
chat capabilities, etc.). This just happened by chance. Carpe Diem.
