netiquette concerning a member who
posted a message and was blasted in private email. This is very troubling
to us.

Even if we disagree with someone, there's no call for trashing the person!
One of the best parts of LM_NET is that we are generally free from flaming
compared to many other listservs. I'm not looking to stifle controversy -
go for it. But, I am looking to stifle personal attacks and rudeness, in
public or in private.

In the LM_NET guidelines, we make it clear that private messages sent in
response to LM_NET postings are considered part of LM_NET. That's why we are
a community and not just a mailing list.

Please - state your opinions, get passionate, respond to members, but
please, let's be civil and supportive.

All the best,

Mike

Subject: Re: Successful overdue returns

At both of the HS's I've been, we didn't allow seniors to participate in
graduation ceremonies if they hadn't cleared all their fines. Can't hold
their diplomas, but walking down the aisle to get it is a privilege. We
also didn't allow students to apply for parking permits until their fines
were paid (applications were rejected if they still had fines). All this in
addition to holding report cards. Works fairly well -- there are always
some who don't care and never turn stuff in though.
