GEN: Trip to British Isles

Dear LM Netters --- HELP   My daughter and I are planning a trip to the
British Isles before she begins Grad School.  We'd like to spend 10-14 days
driving thru Scotland -- Wales or both.  We're interested in landscape,
architecuture, relaxing stopping at only 3 or 4 general locations that we
could explore.  Any suggestions for inns or resorts -- perhaps local
activities early in August? Any "must see" places.  Best city to fly into???
(P.S. I've seen today's NYTimes article on Wales)  Thanks for your help.
