As I picked up my daughter from her ballet class tonight her teacher came to me with a question. She has purchased CD's to use in class that are for classroom use only, and a statement on the back of the CD that says no liscense needed for classroom use. This year she has gotten letters from 3 companies stating that she must pay a fee to them for music used in class. The companies are SESAC, ASCAP, and BMI and the fees that they are charging range from $45. to $72. The teacher has called the state attorney general and didn't get a clear answer. Since the CD's are for classroom use and she only uses them for classroom use should she pay the fees? If so, should she pay each company or just one? When she asked which artist or music company they represented they answered "thousands." Is this a scam?
