Of course we must continue to provide print encyclopedias. Unless your library has a bank of computers you need sources so that everyone in a group can work at once, number one. Secondly, often the print encyclopedia is much faster and readier with the information you seek, than a CD-ROM or the Internet. Third, they are less expensive than on-line subscriptions. Fourth, is it really so great to stare at the screen for everything we do? I don't think so, especially since I would bet almost no schools are up to OSHA standards as far as non-glare screens, keyboard/monitor height, etc. In my K-6 library we have 3 general print encyclos and one specialized wildlife one.
