Hello, all.

I have a patron who is searching for a chapter book. She has lots of
details about the storyline, but no author or title info. We have tried

several sources with no luck. I'm hoping the details may ring a bell
for someone. Here goes......

The story is about a family that moves and can't take their dog with
them. Another family takes the dog in, but the dog breaks its chain,
runs off and hides. The dog then has puppies and manages to save only
one when a fire that breaks out. The dog is fed by nearby construction
workers. Alas, the dog and remaining puppy find a home, and the saga
continues.

If this rings a bell with anyone, please drop me a line. My co-workers
have been amazed by the information that comes from this list. TIA.
