I just spent some time working with 8th graders on booktalking. I showed
them various techniques and we spoke about what made a good booktalk and
what didn't. I did a couple of booktalks where I took on the persona of
one of the characters but most of my talks were from an enthusiastic
reader's perspective. The kids spent about a week working on their talks
and presented them today. I was amazed that just about all the kids did
their talks in the persona of one of the characters in the book. I guess
I'll have to start using that technique more in my booktalks. The kids
really liked it!! Just had to share!

Nancy

BTW, I'm hoping to get permission from the kids' parents to add them (the
booktalks -- not the kids) to my Booktalks site.
