I have recently tested all my students (450 - 5th graders) with the S.T.A.R. test produced by Advantage Learning Systems. It was wonderful to find out the exact reading level of each student. My assistant and I copied our AR list in the ZPD range of each kid. We gave each kid a list of books in his range. Time consuming-yes! Worth it-double yes. The kids are focused on finding books and are excited about the books on their level. Since we are only a fifth grade school we are lacking a sufficient volume of material on the 1st and 2nd grade levels. I need to purchase additional material at a 1st and 2nd grade level that does not seem babyish. I searched the archives and found information on books with a 5th grade interest levelwritten on a third and fourth grade level, but I need books at even a lower level than this. I would appreciate any ideas you have. I have many Nate the Great Junie B. Jones Cam Jansen Boxcar Children Looking for additional suggestions. Thanks so much for your help.
