TARGET: Camcorder suggestions

We have a very old camcorder that is on its last legs.  I would like to
order a new one, but have no idea what to get.  The one we have now
records on full size VCR tape.  I like the new ones that are compact, but
record on smaller tapes.  Is this a problem when you have many teachers
taping?  Is it a problem as far as using a VCR?  Do you have to hook the
camera up to the VCR in order to play the tape (thus taking it out of
service, essentially)?

I should appreciate any advice from those of you who are happy with the
camcorder that you have purchased for your staff.
