Sorry to nit=pick, but the composer is Ferde Grofe.

At one point in the fifties, my mother-in law, had borrowed something
(book, recording, whatever) from Mr. Grofe and asked her son (now my
husband) to return the whatever to Mr. Grofe, who lived at that time on
the edge of Santa Monica Canyon in Los Angeles. He tells a small story
about being ushered into the living room to see Mr. Grofe in all his
fading enimence.

The bridge in question is the Narrows Bridge, Tacoma, Washington. I
don't know about the vidoe, but as I remember, there are pictures of the
bridge collapsing in the book by Henry Petrosky on the failure of design
(don't remember the exact title -- and the book is at home). As a site
note, if you haven't read any Henry Petroski titles, he is a Professor
of Engineering at Duke University who writes well and persuasively on
technology. The first book of his that I read was the Pencil; and his
latest is an extended discourse of bookshelves (and incidentally on
books). Well worth reading.

I just did a quick search on Yahoo using the phrase "Tacoma Narrows
Bridge" and broght up some sites that look promising, including one with
a movie clip.

Cheers. Edith.
