This question really comes up a lot. Maybe we need to add this to the FAQs.
I thought I would post to the list instead of to the poster indvidually so
that it would hit the archives.

I highly recommend everyone add this book to their collections:
The Market Guide for Young Readers by Kathy Henderson
Publication info: Belvidere, N.J. : Shoe Tree Press ; New York, N.Y. :
Distributed by Talman Co., c1988.

This book is modeled after the Writers Market, the standard source for
publishing information. However, this book also gives wonderful information
to students and teachers alike about HOW to get your work published, how to
submit a piece to an editor, and gives a lot of encouragement. It lists both
publications and contests that solicit or will consider kid's writing.

The fun part is that is also contains a Stephen King's first story (written at
13 -- it's pretty awful), a chapter about Gordon Korman's adventures as a
young published writers, and testimonials from other young people who have
successfully published their writing.
