ELEM: On-Line Encyclopedia Recommendation

Colleagues,
Our district has tried unsuccessfully for 2 years to run World Book from a
CD Tower.   We have purchased a new edition and have spent many hours
troubleshooting. (when a class tries to access it, we start getting messages
to insert the CD)
  Well, the Tech Coordinator is giving up, taking it off the tower and will
not purchase it again.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an on-line encyclopedia?  We are a
K-8 school.
