Elem. Comparing children of today to those during decades

Happy Holiday Season !

        A third grade teacher would like to begin the year 2000 by
incorporating a theme comparing children's lives today to those of
children during the decades of this past century (1900 through 1990's).
We have thought about comparing  food prices, recreational activities,
travel modes, prevalent
childhood  illnesses, inventions, Caldecott winners...  We would
appreciate your collective input  in finding lesson plans, more ideas
(and how to implement them),
web sites, books and other printed information etc.  Readability is a
concern but we are willing to rewrite the information for the children.
We appreciate any time, effort, and idea  you may give us.
