Our district is pushing to install Bess at the district server level, and we media specialists (who have no district media faciliatator, I might add) are gathering data from experienced users. We are against filtering, but may have to recommend a filtering method to the school board nonetheless. If you have used Bess in the last year or have pertinent information about it, could you please write to me directly? Ten thousand students in our district may be affected by your information! Also, I've read that there is legislation pending requiring schools to have a filtering method or policy in place in order to receive federal funds of all sorts. Could anyone tell me if that legislation is still alive, already passed (hopefully not!), or fallen by the wayside? I want to be current on my facts before I tangle with our district's administration. I have read somewhere that we could possibly "get around" the filtering method/policy mandates by having our Internet users sign an Acceptable Use Policy, which we do already. Any input? Many, many thanks in advance for any information you can share with me!
