TECH--UMAX scanner and the parallel port

It seems like this is my week for Dreaded Tech Problems...and when you consider 
that *I* am the resident Mother of All Things Computerish, it is a real problem!
We have just gotten a UMAX Astra 2000 scanner for our computer lab.  IN trying to 
set it up, the PC will not recognize it.  UMAX folks told me to "change the 
parallel port mode to EPP"-- and I cannot figure out how to do this.  IS there 
anybody out there who could give me a talk through on how to do this ?  Windows 95 
PC, Netscape.  UMAX folks told me todownload new printer drivers from HP, (did 
that, no go...)next step is this parallel port stuff.....oh for a resident 
techie....
