We did some of the usual things ... from trivia contests to a bookmark design contest. Prizes ranged from free books (thanks to those book fairs) and a special luncheon in the library. Two activities, however, proved to be "favorites." 1. Classrooms put together door (or other) displays featuring a favorite book. Each one was a winner and received a prize chosen "especially" for them. For example, one class did _Thunder Cake_ They received a mini thunder cake to slice up and share. Another class did a display featuring _The Rainbow FIsh_ They received first place for best display using finger paints and also got a bag full of gummi fish. This one can be a bit spendy but they're still talking about it this week, so I think it was worth it :D 2. The First Annual Children's Book Wall of Fame For this one we used the opaque projector to draw a number of famous book characters. We hung them in the hallway and placed a table with ballots below. Participants were asked to name/identify as many characters as possible. We had a special category for teachers too, a couple of whom went to great lengths to figure out who was who (and had a lot of fun doing so)! We definitely plan to do this one again and may start a permanent Wall of Fame (voting annually for a character to add to the permanent display). All in all, we had a good time! This was, btw, the first time this school had celebrated Children's Book Week. Many didn't even know it existed! What fun to let them know :D J.
