TARGET: Character Stories

I would like recommendations of picture books that take about fifteen
minutes to read aloud to fifth graders that have a character issue within
the story.  My favorite is Demi's "The Empty Pot."    Tales or short
stories would be all right, too.  I find most of the stories in William
Bennet's "Book of Virtues for Young People"  a little short and didactic
as well.

In this day of character education in schools, I believe many of us can
use such a list.  I'll publish a HIT.  TIA
