Good afternoon fellow LM_NETters!

The Weed of the Month web pages on October's topic of Weather have been
posted at the following URL: http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/weed/

"Everybody talks about the weather," watches it on TV, and reads about
it. Here in Florida we also pay close attention to major weather events
such as hurricanes and tropical storms. The interest in weather has not
changed over the years, but the science of weather has seen many
changes. When you evaluate your collection on weather you will be
checking to see if you have current weather technology represented as
well as an accurate account of past weather events and disasters.

When you have examined your school's Weather Collection and found titles
to weed, please email me at the address below and we will add them to
the list (without your name!). The same goes for terrific new Weather
titles you would like others to discover. You will notice that we have
no titles on cold weather topics on our lists this month. Remember, we
are in Florida! Please suggest appropriate cold weather titles to us to
add to our lists and make this service more valuable to LM_NETters
around the world.

The SUNLINK Weed of the Month Club is an effort to help provide School
Library Media Specialists with guidelines and suggestions for weeding
their collections a little at a time as well as for adding quality
materials. Included are sections on how to get started, the rationale
for weeding a topic area, criteria to consider, titles to consider for
weeding and titles to consider when replacing outdated materials. These
suggested lists are neither comprehensive nor authoritative. You may
agree or disagree with some of the titles. That's fine! You may have a
more recent edition or version of a title that you would never consider
for weeding. Remember that weeding is always subject to your
professional judgment because you know your students and your curriculum.
