I apologize for sending out another email so soon, but there is a problem with the link for registration for the Stine Manor chat on October 13. Rather than wait, please send your registration to: mmbska1@aol.com That is a number 1, not the letter "l" This is my daughter, Amy Wildt, who will be processing the registrations for a few days. You are most welcome to visit the website and send the information, should the link be activated. If not, please send the registration information to her. Your personal information will be confidential, I assure you. As a reminder: The Read In! 2000 <www.readin.org> has several announcements: Stine Manor registrations are open--please visit the Registration Page on the website or, if the link is not activated, please send an email to mmbska1@aol.com with "Stine Manor Registration" as the subject line. We only need the name of the school, number of participants, your location, and number of computers connecting for the chat. This information is confidential: We only need it for tracking and to give the communities.com folks an idea as to number of server connections needed. This is a free event and will be an intimate chat with R.L. Stine in his Stine Manor. This is special chat software from The Palace and is completely free as a download from www.communities.com This October 13th event is limited to one thousand participants, so please register early. We will be online approximately one week prior to the event to help you setup and answer questions. That is: Meet R.L. Stine on October 13 from 1-2 PM Eastern Time. You will receive complete instructions on both the communities.com website and through a Read In! listserv announcement after you regsiter! Three autographed Stine Manor tshirts will be given away to participants! If you have never used software like this, you are in for a treat. Mr. Stine comes as himself (a light shade of green!) and you and your students come to his "home" as costumed trick-or-treaters! This is safe (we have worked countless hours on "pottymouth" scripting which will NOT allow students to type in derogatory or inappropriate words or sayings) and it is fun! Be sure to visit the website under The Read In! Learning Center for complete details. ************* Also, we are offering your students and you several wonderful reading incentives this year: 1- CHAPBOOKS.COM NEW PUBLISHER PROGRAM Chapbooks.com allows teachers to publish student writing anthologies in the form of beautiful paperback books for as little as $5 each for 30 copies. Last spring, 50 Read In! teachers published books and gave their students the pride of publication. We are proud to announce that we have donated 100 minigrants of $150 each to The Read In! so that 100 new teachers can try our web-based service for free. Each of these minigrants pays for the entire cost of a minimum order of 30 copies of a short book (including standard shipping charges). The value of the grant, can of course, be applied to a larger order, although that is NOT a requirement! APPLICATION DEADLINE: October 15 ORDER DEADLINE: November 12 HOW TO APPLY: Between now and October 15, visit The Read In! website at www.readin.org, register and read the complete instructions for applying for a Chapbooks.com grant. Remember: it is FREE! NOTES: This is open ONLY to REGISTERED Read In! participating schools and/or libraries. Each application will be verified, but any number of teachers may participate from one site. Previous recipients of the Read In! grants (from spring 1999) are not eligible to apply. Multiple grant recipients may not combine their grants to produce a single order. Only one grant per order, please. ****************** 2- Three autographed Stine Manor t-shirts will be awarded to three students from schools/homeschoolers/libraries who participate in the Stine Manor live event on October 13th! Thank you, Bob, for autographing these for your fans! ****************** 3- The Read In Foundation Inc. calls upon schools around the world to create their own literacy project within their community. Put on your thinking caps and create a literacy project which has a positive impact wherever you live! Deadline for entries is March 15th, 2000!
