I received several great suggestions and also some requests to post a hit, =
so here goes:

High School Read-Aloud Suggestions

My Angelica -- Carol Lynch Williams
Romiette and Julio -- Sharon Draper
Frenchtown -- Robert Cormier
How I Spent My Last Night On Earth -- Todd Strasser

I have an English teacher who has been read "Tuesdays with Morrie" to =
his=20
students in Junior English. He reads for about 5 minutes at the=20
beginning of each period. He is asking them to comment on the material=20
read in their journals.

With the popularity of the movie Urban legends, you might want to try
Southern Fried Rat & other gruesome tales by Daniel Cohen - the kids love
it, and it's fun to read aloud on a dark, stormy afternoon in October.

Tales from the Dark THirty by McKissack is excellent for 8th graders. I =
think your high schoolers would like it , too.

I'm new at this too. An English teacher asked me for a read aloud
suggestion for his freshman classes. I recommended both "Holes" and
"Harry Potter" and he said they were greatly received. I guess they are
both middle school level but good stories that keep the interest of the
students.

I read all this year's California Young Reader Nominees, and I would
definitely recommend The Dark Side of Nowhere (Shusterman) as a read-aloud.=

Alias was also pretty good (sorry can't remember the author right off the
top of my head.)
