One way to judge whether students need and want to use print encyclopedias is to watch and see how much time you spend putting the shelf back in order. Judging by the number of volumes of my print encyclopedias that had to be put back on the shelf today, I would say that students still need and want to use print. Many find that it is just plain faster to find the information this way. I have been lucky in being able to keep my print sets from being to far out of date. Our Academic American, Encyclopedia Americana, and New Book of Knowledge are all less that 5 years old and are used. I hope to purchase a new World Book this year. A very nice parent donated a set of Encyclopedia Britannica that was newer that what I had. All have been used. We also use MS Encarta and Groliers on CD-ROM. They are especially good for visuals and the annimated explanations. I plan to keep buying print encyclopedias for a long time yet. Debbie Stafford Gen. H.H.
