There has been several messages concerning books divided by grade and the statement that many of the older students would not want to look for books in grade levels below theirs. I do not separate books except for the kindergarten students but I have many older students who love reading the easier books and must be persuaded to check out books more appropriate for their grade levels, even though they are very good readers. Teachers who use the Accelerated Reader program are a great help in encouraging students to read books on their grade levels and of course I try to work with the students to help them choose challenging books. I have also had language arts middle school teachers encourage their students to check out easy books so they can determine plot, character, settings, and other aspects of stories. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Madeline L.
