ADMIN: Information about EL-ANNOUNCE

Greetings LM_NETTERS!

I'm sure you are well into the school year.  It's certainly a busy time; one
that demands 150% of your time.  That's the way it is for me too.  So, I
will be as brief as possible and to the point.

As you may know, two years ago we started a companion listserv to LM_NET -
called EL-ANNOUNCE.  The purpose of EL-ANNOUNCE is to provide an outlet for
commercial messages of interest to those in the library media field.  As you
know, we work very hard to keep LM_NET as "commercial-free" as possible, and
overall we are very successful.  However, we don't want to miss useful
announcements from vendors - particularly those messages about DISCOUNTS,
new products and specials.  That's where EL-ANNOUNCE comes in.  EL-ANNOUNCE
is a read-only, moderated listserv.  It is an announcement list only--there
will be no discussion, but you will be able to reply directly to a specific
vendor to obtain additional information if you desire. We pre-screen to make
sure that messages are of potential interest to persons in the school
library media field, and vendors are limited to only one message per week.

Recent EL-ANNOUNCE postings of announcements and discounted specials
include: Capstone Press, Facts On File News Services, Follett Software
Company, KEH Communications, Libraries Unlimited, Linworth Publishing,
Omnigraphics, Rock Hill Press, Storyhouse. I feel very strongly that vendors
can and should be valuable partners in our effort to meet the information,
resource, and instructional needs of students and staff, K-12.  These
companies are examples of vendors who are eager to work with us.

So, if you don't currently receive EL-ANNOUNCE messages, please consider
doing so.  It's easy to subscribe (see below) and the traffic is very
manageable.  It's simple to quickly scan down the messages to those relevant
to your needs. For example, EL-ANNOUNCE may be particularly helpful to spot
deals and announcements of new products as you prepare your orders. It's
also a good way to show your support for LM_NET!
