Query: Timeline maker?

I have in mind to do a sort of reading promotion for CB Week.  I want to
make a banner sized timeline with some historical stuff on it and then
record the number of books that we read on it or below it until we reach
2000. I thought that I would easily find a  cheap banner timeline maker,
but I havent so far.  I looked at tucows.com and shareware.com, and
Fastrac. Can any of you tell me the name of a piece of inexpensive
software that would do what I want to do--that is make a banner sized time
line?  As usual, thanks in advance for considering my query.  It is
wonderful to have you in my corner.
