I am researching the following topic: What effect do computerized reading management programs (Accelerated Reader, Electronic Bookshelf, That's A Fact Jack) have on the selection process. Currently I am having difficulty finding much written on this subject. I have searched the LM_NET archives. There is quite a bit on the success of accelerated reader but nothing on how these programs affect selection. I will continue my search but I am considering putting together a survey however I would like some input as to what would be important questions to ask. This is where I would like all the wonderful people on LM_NET to assist me. Below are some samples of ideas and stories I would like you to send me. Accelerated Reader is most prominent in my area but please don't limit you ideas to that one product. Do you think it is important to know how each company selects the books they will include? Are such reading programs mandatory? Are the benefits of these programs really measurable? are 10 question tests really indicative of a child's reading success? How much of the budget is used to purchase such products? One media specialist must use her entire budget for Accelerated Reading material. She has no funds for other materials. This has gone on for two years and has been mandated by the principal. Please send your own personal tales of selection and reading programs. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
