Is it sacrilegious to say that Rupert Giles is a lousy role model? I love the show, and have watched _Buffy the Vampire Slayer_ since the beginning. And I love Giles -- and, yes, I think he's very sexy. BUT--- he's a lousy high school librarian. There are NEVER any students in that library! The one time I saw him doing anything librarianish he was checking out a book (to the token student in 3 years). I realize that the focus of the show is not his being a librarian, but would it hurt to see students leaving the library as Buffy and her friends entered? Of course, now that they've blown up the library and graduated, where will he be this season? A college library? He should be in a research library. That's his strength as a librarian. He's a role model for the importance of research, but NOT as a high school librarian, article in American Libraries to the contrary. --Jan Jan Hylen Education Librarian University Library, MSC 3475 New Mexico State University P.O.
