I'd like to suggest "When I was Young in the Mountains" by Cynthia Rylant.  We
are a high school library, but keep easy reader books on hand for our Teacher
Cadet and early childhood classes.  This one is always a hit; the little ones
love it, and so do teens and adults who do the reading.  Beautiful pictures.
