Greetings~

I am a LIS graduate student doing research on competitive reading programs
such as AR, Reading Roundup,Reading Renaissance,That's a Fact, Jack etc.

I have only been exposed to AR in two very different media centers, one
elementary, one middle. While both LMSs loved AR, I had reservations as the
message to students through collection arrangement and verbal and non verbal
cues seemed to be--read ONLY AR books and only those for which we have a
test. Books without AR indicators remained on the shelves--including some
of my childhood favorites. Is my perception valid? That being said, I
would appreciate any input on this subject from "y'all". I'm curious....

Which program do you use?

Was it in place when you arrived? Who chose it?

Are your AR (or other program) books shelved together or intermingled with
the entire collection?

Do the teachers limit students' choices or are they encouraged to "read up"
or allowed to "read down"?

To what extent does your competitive reading program influence your
selection and collection development?

What do you see as the pros and cons?

Have you gathered any statistics in your school that the programs has
increased circulation, reading levels or test scores?

Appreciate your input...Thanks in advance.
