Hi everyone. I am beginning my second year as an elementary media specialist and need some advice on a good checkout procedure for PreK-5 students. Each of my classes have assigned seats which they go to as soon as the library period begins. I then let students check out books by tables. However, I only let 1 or 2 tables check out at a time because I do not have an assistant and I help the students select books as well as check the students out on the circulation computer. Here are my questions: Are there any independent media activities that the other students can work on while they are waiting for their turn to check out books? Is there a book that may have a variety of activities I can use for these students? Or am I going about checkout the wrong way-please help. I feel like students are missing out on valuable learning time while they are waiting for their turn to checkout. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If people will respond to me I'll compile your responses and post A HIT-> on the topic back to the entire LM_NET. Thanks in advance.
