Greetings fellow library media specialists! I have several questions regarding the Accelerated Reading program. Is the program effective in the early primary school curriculum? Do first graders who are emerging readers benefit from the program, or should it be implemented in second or third grade when the students become more independent readers? Right now I have just begun my first year as a LMS in a K-3 grade school. Everyone loves the program at my school and all want to see it continued. To date, the program is about 2 yrs. old. I would like to see it moved into the classroom, implemented by the teachers, and out of the library. As you may have surmised, I have yet to be sold on the Accelerated Reader program and need your feedback. What works for you or what changes would you make at your school? If you do not have th AR program at your school why did you choose that route.
