Dear LM netters: Please recommend to me some terrific American history biographies that actually circulate. They need to be on the fifth grade reading level or above, but not much higher. Is there a good series anyone has found? I'm also looking for recommendations to purchase informative books regarding life during our Colonial period and life during, before and after the Civil War. I know about the Bobbie Kalman books from Crabtree, but I'm not convinced they're the answer without asking all of you. One of the 5th grade teachers and I are planning a parody of PBS' "Antique Roadshow" to do next year, and it's going to take a bit of collecting, and some great books for the kids to do their research. Anyone else inspired by this show and the teacher who did this in Bronxville, NY? It should be fun.
