AASL seeking new co-editor for Knowledge Quest

The American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division of the =
American Library Association, is seeking a new co-editor for its print =
journal Knowledge Quest. Deadline for applications is May 1, 2000. The =
appointment begins August 1, 2000.

Published bimonthly September through June, Knowledge Quest is devoted to =
offering substantive information to assist building-level library media =
specialists, supervisors, library educators, and other decision-makers =
concerned with the development of school library media programs and =
services. Feature articles and columns address the integration of theory =
and practice in school librarianship and new developments in education, =
learning theory, and relevant disciplines.

Appointed by the AASL president, the new co-editor will share the =
responsibility of editorial direction, textual content and manuscript =
development with continuing co-editor Debbie Abilock, librarian at The =
Nueva School in Hillsborough, Calif. The co-editors are supported by the =
Knowledge Quest Editorial Board, whose members serve as consultants in the =
development of guidelines and policies for the publication of the journal. =
 Business management, production and publishing are handled through AASL =
staff and ALA Production Services.

This co-editor position is open to any AASL personal member or potential =
member whose professional experience and writing and/or editing background =
would enable him or her to produce a high quality publication that =
addresses the diverse interests of the readership. Like all AASL =
committee appointments, this is a volunteer, unpaid position. However, =
the division provides a travel budget for the co-editors to attend ALA =
Midwinter Meetings and ALA Annual Conferences as well as funds for some =
expenses incurred in editing the journal. The co-editors are also =
eligible for complimentary "press" registration for ALA Midwinter =
Meetings, ALA Annual Conferences and AASL National Conferences. Attendance=
 at these events is a requirement of the position. Other requirements =
include the ability to work within established deadlines and commitment to =
devoting the necessary time to the editors' work. The co-editor can =
expect to devote an average of 5-6 hours per week to the journal, although =
actual demands on the editors' time fluctuate considerably during the =
year.

If you wish to be considered for this position, please submit by Monday, =
May 1, 2000:
* a letter indicating your reasons for seeking the position and describing =
your knowledge of the priorities and goals of AASL;
* a copy of your resume;
* up to three samples of articles you have written and/or written material =
you have edited; and
* three letters of reference.
Send the above to Steven Hofmann, c/o Knowledge Quest Co-editor Search, =
American Association of School Librarians, 50 E. Huron St., Chicago, IL =
60611-2795. For more information, contact Mr. Hofmann at 800-545-2433, =
ext. 4389; e-mail: shofmann@ala.org.
