Missionary work

Friends,
    I know this is a little off topic but I feel it has worth.  I have a
very dear friend of mine who would like to donate next summer (she's a
teacher) to a missionary cause.  However, she is an atheist and would
like to find non religious opportunities.  She has contacted the Peace
Corps but they demand a 2 yr. hitch.   I thought of Habitat for Humanity
but that's about it.  Please respond with any ideas you might have.
