Hi All, I'd like some opinions on the following: I run a computer lab in a K-8 school. When the kids are doing research, they very often want to print articles from Encarta or World Book encyclopedia CD ROMs. I feel very uncomfortable about this. First of all, the articles are usually much longer than the kids think they will be when printed out--10-15 pages isn't unusual. I try to encourage the kids to read the article and take notes from it in their own words, but they want to take the article home or use it to work on their research paper as their assignment progresses. While I understand this (time is usually of the essence in a computer lab), I worry that I am encouraging plagiarism by allowing them to copy an entire encyclopedia article. I have taught (and re-taught, and re-re-taught) note taking skills, but...copying still happens. Opinions, please????
