Hi, I love hearing your great ideas, and I thought I'd share one of my own. We've been studying poetry all month, and I just did a fun activity with third graders using Easter eggs and poems. I bought 24 plastic eggs (with 4 eggs of each color). I took 6 short 4-line poems and copied them and cut them apart. I used eggs of the same color and put 1 line of each poem in an egg. Before the class came I hid the eggs in very easy places. The third graders came and each found 1 egg. Then I told them to find the other kids with the same color egg and open their eggs and try to put their poem in order. I had color-coded paper on tables with poem titles so they could put their poem in the right order and tape it down. At the end, each group presented their poem to the class. In most groups, each student read the line from the poem that they had found. For the kindergartners we're reading Jesse Bear. I put rhyming words from the story in the eggs. I'm going to let each child pick an egg out of my basket and then try to think of a word to rhyme with the word in their egg.
