Barcoding without automation software installed

We have just received our barcodes from our
retroconversion from Follett.  We do not have
the automation software installed and do not
have a timeline for when it will be installed.
The instructions from Follett say to have the
software installed before barcoding which I
agree with.

What are your thoughts, pro and con?  Any
advice would be appreciated.  TIA
