GEN: NEA Read Across America - libraries still absent

NEA members, check out the latest NEA Today (May).  Page 29 has a story
about Accelerated Reader with a little box about RAA.  Says "Check out the
photo highlights at our web site."  I checked.  Not a library in the bunch.
There is a "share your thoughts" survey at http://www.nea.org/readacross.
In the survey there is nothing about libraries until you get to checking
off whether you are a teacher, a parent, a media specialist, etc.

It appears that NEA needs some evidence of the worth of school libraries
forcefully put.  If you are so moved, go to the survey and suggest that
presenting school libraries as actively promoting reading would be a good
idea. (!!)  And let's all write on our calendars to send our Read Across
America plans for March 2, 2001 to NEA in November and December so they
can't say they didn't know what libraries were doing in time for the
February issue deadline.

And then let's see what happens.
