What IS The Read In!? The Read In! is a day-long reading project for childre=
n=20
ages 5-18 in grades K-12. It incorporates and integrates the Language Arts=20
Curriculum and telecommunications into a worthwhile educational collaboratio=
n=20
among peers throughout North America and the world. Kindergarten through=20
twelfth graders across North America and around the globe gather together by=
=20
modem prior to and during the Day Of the project to speak with twenty-two of=
=20
their favorite authors and illustrators.

On the Day of The Read In!, students and teachers bring blankets, pillows,=20
and all types of reading materials (no restrictions, other than=20
site-mandated) to join in a lively, interactive exchange. They spend the day=
=20
together reading and celebrating reading. If they have Internet access on=20
site they use telecommunications to chat together live to discuss the day's=20
events and, of course, all aspects of reading!

Partners in Education: To fulfill its stated mission, The Read In Foundation=
=20
is broadening it base of support through partnerships with public and privat=
e=20
educational institutions, corporations, and private citizens worldwide. To=20
that end, The Read In Foundation, Inc., has partnered with:

CTAP6, The California Technology Assistance Project Delta Sierra Region 6, a=
=20
cooperative effort of the Counties of Amador, Calaveras, San Joaquin,=20
Stanislaus and Tuolumne in California. Its goal is to provide regional=20
educational technology leadership initiative and provide assistance to=20
schools and districts in integrating technology into teaching and learning.

The 21st Century Teachers Network (21CT), a nationwide, non-profit initiativ=
e=20
of the McGuffey Project, dedicated to assisting k-12 teachers learn, use and=
=20
effectively integrate technology in the curriculum for improved student=20
learning. 21CT seeks to empower teacher leaders by connecting them with=20
people and resources that will assist in the creation of teacher-driven=20
professional development programs.

LM_NET Network, a 12,000 member, worldwide online discussion group and=20
organization of school library media professionals and others interested in=20
supporting school libraries. LM_NET Network is used by library media=20
specialists to ask for input, share ideas, and information, link programs=20
that are geographically remote, and to establish and hone professional=20
contacts.

Chapbooks.com, a new, Internet-based company that focuses on classroom and=20
community publishing. This is a unique, web-based service which enables=20
groups or individuals to create a permanent record of their ideas,=20
experiences, and achievements in the form of a paperback book. For registere=

Read In! participants, The New Publisher Program awards micro-grants to K-12=
=20
classroom teachers to publish a class set of thirty anthologies of student=20
writing in paperback book form.

KidBibs brings kids and books together! KidBibs is an Internet based source=20
of information to help children with their schoolwork and situations that=20
arise in their lives. KidBibs will suggest strategies and materials to help=20
children achieve their potential. KidBibs is the ultimate resource for=20
helping children become good readers, writers, and learners.

Elliot and Friends, Inc. The mission of Elliot and Friends is to enlighten,=20
educate and entertain children through interactive technology, to motivate=20
and empower children to learn about the world through explorations, to learn=
=20
to protect and preserve their world by going on exciting, imaginary=20
adventures.  Blending education and storytelling, animation and live-action,=
=20
online interactivity and television, Elliot and Friends challenge children t=
o=20
take care and responsibility for the environment. =20

Hoadworks, Inc. provides online interactive word games, puzzles, and will=20
soon offer interactive story telling. Hoadworks, Inc. will partner with the=20
Read In! by providing word puzzles and games on The Read In! website which=20
will be tailored specifically to Read In! events. With classroom technology=20
integration and core literature and vocabulary in hand, it is hoped that thi=
s=20
innovative strategy will enhance students' active reading skills, enrich=20
their vocabulary, and enable them to grow and become more literate.
