Dear LM_Netters:

I have been volunteering my time recently to work on a very exciting
project. I am writing to encourage your support and participation in
this endeavor. The educational piece of this project allows children:

* to learn about the involvement of various minorities during WWII;
* to learn how a resolution proceeds through the US Congressional
process to become enacted, and finally,
* to become actively involved in passing this resolution by locating
their congressional leaders web addresses and learning to write a letter
to support the passage of this honorary resolution.

The project has a website: http://www.dayofhonor2000.org - go to the
Related Websites Tab.

At it you can learn about the grassroots effort that is in progress now
throughout the US and how it will be highlighted on Thursday, May 25th
in Washington DC with a National Day of Honor. This event will honor the
efforts of all those Americans who fought injustice both at home and
abroad.

Since becoming involved with this project, I have learned so much. I was
fascinated to learn:
* about the Navajo Code Talkers whose unique native language was
indecipherable by the Germans,
* about the Tuskegee Airmen=92s record of never losing a bomber to enemy
fire,
* about the heroic work done by Japanese-Americans in the field of
Military Intelligence to end the war in the Pacific,

and many more little known facts! It is a part of history often
over-looked but nonetheless intrinsic to the success of the US
involvement in WWII.

Besides learning about minorities in WWII, you can help get the
resolution passed by contacting your US Senators and US Representative
to let them know that you are behind this honorary initiative. All the
information on =93how to=94 do this is on the website:
http://www.dayofhonor2000.org/Education.html .

Please take a moment to check it out and see if this is something you or
your Social Studies/Civics teachers might like to work with. If you have
any comments or questions, please contact me or dayofhonor2000@aol.com
or the address below.

Thanks for your help!
