I am working on a presentation / paper regarding Character Education
programs that are being developed in schools across the country. My focus
is not entirely on the programs themselves but rather on the implementation
of the programs by school personnel and how involved teachers,
administrators and librarians are in the programs that they have created.

I would like to find out, specifically, how involved is the librarian in
the program, what types of problems has the librarian had working with the
teachers and administrators in providing the resources for the programs,
and if any librarians feel "left out of the program" because they were
never involved in the original process. In addition, I would like to find
out if librarians have suggestions for those schools who have not yet, but
are considering, implementing a character education program, i.e. "what can
schools do to provide the resources needed to develop these programs and
are librarians / libraries an important factor in the success of the
programs?'

If you would like to participate by filling out a questionnaire, I would
appreciate your help. My goal is to prepare a short presentation to a
local organization which would include a bibliography of materials that are
being used by many schools, as well as a guide to some schools within the
nation who have implemented programs that seem to help students in the area
of character education. If you would like to participate, I will also
forward you the final report and bibliography at the end of the project.

Please send all requests to participate to me personally rather than to the
listserv.

Thank you.
