I think the point has been missed! Kids ARE READING Harry Potter! That's where we 
can find them and tap into a newfound love of reading. Yes, there are many good 
pieces of children's literature that we can use to teach foreshadowing, plot, etc., 
but the plain and simple fact remains--the kids want Harry Potter!

Most of you are probably too young to remember every "cool" English teacher back in 
the sixties teaching poetry with Rod McKuen or Simon and Garfunkle lyrics. It's the 
same thing! And we're fooling ourselves to think that by banning or shunning Harry 
Potter books, we'll make them go away (as if we would want to). Personally, I can't 
wait for the next installment!
