In my signed copy of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," Ms. Rowling wrote: "With sincere apologies for Madam Pince" As Jane wrote, this is a character in a book. I do not think it is meant as an attack on librarians, but rather as a way to tell a good story. Think of all the things Harry, Hermione, and Ron had to struggle to find in the library. Would it have made as fulfilling a store if a friendly librarian gave them whatever information they needed? Just my 2 cents worth!
