Hi Everyone, Marcy has done an amazing job using school funds and her own money to design a wonderful library in a wonderful space! If approx. $40,000 was needed to update a grade 4-6 school library, how much do you suppose I'd need for a K-8 school? Two years ago we spent a $30,000 grant and still have relatively few books per subject per grade level. It can be disheartening. I think this is why so many teachers send their kids to the Internet. Even if we could afford to put in a comprehensive collection there is no place to put it. I am hoping with the new library in the new addition to our school (mind you ground has not been broken yet, and it was promised two years ago...) there will be space for comfy reading areas and separate teaching/research areas. Right now there is very little space between the shelves and the tables, it's hard to have kids looking for books while a class is going on. I have freestanding shelves for reference books literally behind my back at the circulation desk. I think we can dream, but unless we have the physical space to actually place the comfy couch, it will only be a dream.
