Thanks to many knowledgable librarians!
Here's what I found out about videos that show the steps in book publishing:

Try to find the Reading Rainbow video called "Simon's Book" by Hendrik
Drescher. It can be ordered from http://gpn.unl.edu/rainbow/index.html.
Click on the link to Librarians, and then go to the Reading Rainbow store.

I do not know if it is now avail in video but I have an old but very
good filmstrip "Meet Stephen Kellogg." In the film it shows how he
created and had printed "Island of the Skog." It goes through the four
color process to show how the illustrations emerge. It is really quite good.
You might try Weston Woods. I looked on Amazon and Library Video for you
but did not find it.

Weston Woods (now purchased by Scholastic) used to have a fs of Steven
Kellog explaining the process -- "How a Book is Made" -- perhaps they have
put it on video. You might go to the Scholastic site and request a catalog.

Reading Rainbow has a nice one. The story is Simon's Book by Henrik
Drescher. Lavar Burton then visits Drescher to see how author's put books
together. He also visits a printing press and a bindery. I show it to my
third graders every Nov. during Children's Book Week.

Do you have Aliki's *How a Book is Made*?
I heard at workshop once the following idea:
Authors and illustrators often NEVER meet one another. So, have one
group write a short story. 2nd group reads story and creates
illustrations for book. Then, put the 2 together for the completed
book.
